A guide for every variant

The rules

How it plays

  1. Four players form North–South and East–West partnerships and receive thirteen cards each.
  2. Bid a level and strain, pass, double or redouble; three passes after a bid end the auction.
  3. The first player on the declaring side to name the final strain becomes declarer; their partner becomes dummy.
  4. Players must follow suit; trump wins, otherwise the highest card of the led suit takes the trick.
  5. The declaring side scores for making its contract; defenders score penalties when it goes down.
Availability note. Expected early November is an approximate target. The catalogue opens a few apps at a time, and each release waits until the one before it has settled in.

Ways to play

2 games for the price of one.

Every variant here is a game of its own — its own rules and legal-move checking, its own tables, its own illustrated guide, its own daily challenge, its own achievements and its own taught first game that walks you in. One purchase brings all 2. Each option below changes the table while keeping the engine's legal-move checks in charge.

Bridge

The classic home game: first side to win two games takes the rubber.

  • The original social form of Contract Bridge, played at home and in card rooms.
  • Contract points score below the line and accumulate toward game — 100 points — so part-scores carry over from deal to deal until a side completes a game.
  • A side that has won a game becomes vulnerable, raising both bonuses and penalties, and the first side to win two games takes the rubber and its bonus.
  • Holding four or five of the trump honors in one hand (or all four aces at notrump) scores extra honor points.
  • One long, swingy battle rather than a series of independent deals.

Duplicate Bridge

Club-style bridge: numbered boards, dealt vulnerability, every board scored on its own.

  • The form of Contract Bridge played in clubs and federations worldwide, where boards are numbered and every board is scored on its own.
  • Vulnerability is assigned by the board number rather than earned, there is no rubber and no carryover between deals, so a disaster costs you that board and nothing more.
  • In a club the same boards are replayed by other pairs holding identical cards and the results are compared as matchpoints or IMPs; that comparison needs a whole field of pairs, so here you play the boards at your own table and a board's raw score is the result — the sitting is won on total points.

Every online table is a ladder. Each Arena table and each tournament above comes at four entry levels — Challenge 10 GC, Contest 50 GC, Championship 200 GC, and a Friendly 1 GC table that returns the coin to everyone who finishes. The higher the entry level, the more places share the reward; aiOrion keeps 10% of a paid table's entries to pay for running the online game, and nothing from a Friendly one.

Make it yours. Start from any of these, adjust the settings the game allows, and save it as your own template. Online tables start the same way: copy one of the Arena tables, then set the entry, the rewards and who may join.
