Go — aiOrion GamesBoard game · Third release

Expected October

Go

Simple stones. A whole world of territory.

Three boards, three different games: the sharp tactical 9×9, the 13×13 middle ground and the full 19×19 where Go's real depth lives. Bundled KataGo nets guide the on-device AI on all three.

A guide for every variant

The rules

How it plays

  1. Black and White alternate placing stones on empty intersections; Black moves first.
  2. Connected groups share liberties and are captured when their last liberty is removed.
  3. Suicide is forbidden unless the move captures and restores liberties.
  4. Ko forbids immediately recreating the previous board position.
  5. Two consecutive passes end the game; territory, prisoners and White's komi determine the score.
Availability note. Expected October is an approximate target. The catalogue opens a few apps at a time, and each release waits until the one before it has settled in.

Ways to play

3 games for the price of one.

Every variant here is a game of its own — its own rules and legal-move checking, its own tables, its own illustrated guide, its own daily challenge, its own achievements and its own taught first game that walks you in. One purchase brings all 3. Each option below changes the table while keeping the engine's legal-move checks in charge.

9×9 — Quick

The small board: sharp, tactical games in minutes.

  • Go on the 9×9 board — the ideal way to learn the game and the favourite for quick play.
  • Every rule of Go applies, but the small grid leaves no room for slow build-up: the fighting starts almost immediately, games take minutes rather than hours, and each stone carries real weight. Komi is 7.5, the area-scoring convention.

13×13

The bridge board: room for openings, still a quick game.

  • Go on the 13×13 board — the middle ground between the quick 9×9 and the full game.
  • There is enough room for a real opening: corners matter, and territory can be staked out along the sides, yet the game stays short and usually turns on one or two big fights.
  • A natural next step after 9×9, and a satisfying game in its own right. Komi is 7.5.

19×19 — Full board

The full game: corners, sides, center — the deepest board game there is.

  • Go as it has been played for centuries: the full 19×19 board, scored by area — your stones plus the empty points they enclose — with komi 7.5 for White.
  • The large grid turns Go into a whole-board game — openings unfold in the corners, moyos grow along the sides, and local fights must always be weighed against the global position.
  • A single game can host many battles, trades and invasions, rewarding patience, counting and judgement like no other board game.

Every online table is a ladder. Each Arena table and each tournament above comes at four entry levels — Challenge 10 GC, Contest 50 GC, Championship 200 GC, and a Friendly 1 GC table that returns the coin to everyone who finishes. The higher the entry level, the more places share the reward; aiOrion keeps 10% of a paid table's entries to pay for running the online game, and nothing from a Friendly one.

Make it yours. Start from any of these, adjust the settings the game allows, and save it as your own template. Online tables start the same way: copy one of the Arena tables, then set the entry, the rewards and who may join.
